Teachership - Classroom Leadership
“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.” - John F. Kennedy
One might ask, “What is teachership?” and I would answer them by
explaining, that it is the term I use to describe what a teacher must do first in order to effectively teach.
But in reality, it’s much more. Teachership is not only for the classroom teacher, it is for the parent, the
executive, the manager at a fast food restaurant or any person required to train another. So, whenever I use the word teacher I am referring to
anyone who has to show some one else “how to do it.”
Another might ask, “Why teachership?” and I would explain that most teachers, as well as others, are not
taught the necessary skills to create productive learning situations. The powers that be considered it sufficient to know the material, to know
which forms to fill out and how to write a lesson plan.
But, I strongly disagree with this perception. Leadership is the most important concept that a teacher can
master. If the teacher does not have willing followers there will not be any useful teaching or learning. A truly successful teacher
must be a leader.
Yet, teachers graduate every year believing they are prepared for the classroom without the slightest idea of how
to be a leader.
So, the purpose of Teachership: The Inside Secrets for Superstar Teaching is to help
teachers develop the necessary leadership skills to become great teachers.
